Vessel
Hjalmar Bjørge is a 23m ex-Norwegian ice-class rescue ship. She underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2002 so that she combines passenger comfort with seaworthiness. She is eminently suited for adventurous sea voyages for up to 12 passengers. The vessel is currently registered MCA “Cat 2” (60 miles from a safe haven). She has the capability if required, to have this coding up-rated to Cat 0 (unrestricted worldwide) and in summer 2005 completed a successful cruise of the Faroe Islands and northern coast of Iceland.
Hjalmar Bjørge is the ideal platform from which both individuals and groups can explore remote archipelagos, abandoned islands, sea bird colonies or encounter dolphins on passage. The beauty of a vessel the size of Hjalmar Bjørge is that she is large enough to contain comfortable cabins and saloon but small enough to drop anchor in the most inaccessible and picturesque locations. If you’d like to share this experience with a small number of like-minded guests then you’ve come to the right place.
Hjalmar Bjørge
The MV Hjalmar Bjørge (the correct Norwegian pronunciation is ”YAL-MUH B’YOR-GAY” but we call her the “HAL-MUH GEORGE” to keep life simple) is a former Norwegian ice-class rescue vessel. Since undergoing an extensive refurbishment this outstanding small ship combines luxury and comfort with seaworthiness eminently suited to adventurous sea voyages for up to 12 passengers.
Accommodation
Hjalmar Bjørge is an ideal platform from which both individuals and groups can explore the beautiful Inner and Outer Hebrides of Scotland, including St Kilda, the Isles of Skye and Mull and the West Coast of the Highlands, or even further afield such Orkney and Shetland. There are many thousands of miles of coast to explore in Scotland and beyond and we would like to show you some of the most remote parts of it. The beauty of a vessel the size of Hjalmar Bjørge is that it’s large enough to contain comfortable cabins and saloon but small enough to drop anchor in the most inaccessible and picturesque locations that passengers on larger cruise ships can only dream about. If you’d like to share this experience with a small number of like-minded guests (no more than 12 in total) then you’ve come to the right place, and you can even private charter the boat for a really bespoke experience.
