Private Charter

Private Charters for Family and Friends

Our private cruise charters allow you to hire of the whole boat, complete with crew, fuel and all food provisioning, for up to twelve guests. You will be able to plan your itinerary with the help of your skipper who, if required can advise you on the best location for your needs and desires. Obviously boats always, to some extent, need to take weather and sea conditions in to account, but because our crew are intimate/familiar with the west coast and the islands they/we will be able to make amendments to the cruise at any time whilst still giving you some of the experiences that you required.

Chartering the boat allows you to tailor your cruise to your preferences whether you are planning a family holiday, a celebration to mark a special occasion or a walking tour with friends?. Hjalmar has the indoor and outdoor space for 12 passengers to congregate comfortably. You might be thinking of drinks and canapes on the foredeck before dinner or board games in the saloon on our large tables. Small boat family holidays are a wonderful way to give every member of your family time off. All meals are provided and no-one needs to do the shopping, the washing up or drive you from place to place. Relax and unwind with a book and a glass from our well stocked bar and let the sea wash your worries away.

Hjalmar has been home to private art class charters and photography courses as well lighthouse society tours. Your business or social club could benefit from a stress free charter where your accommodation, travel and meals are all in one place. You only need to decide on your direction.

Hjalmar is available to charter for upwards of 3 nights, subject to availability. Book the whole boat and receive a 10% reduction on our normal prices.

Usually our charters begin and finish in Oban, but we are able accommodate different pick up/drop off locations within the West coast at the small additional cost for relocation.

Our prices are all inclusive and there are no hidden costs.

Boat Charters for Film, Music and Media

The Hjalmar Bjorge is available for private boat charter hire to TV, film and other media production crews anywhere within the West Coast of the Scottish Highland and Inner and Outer Hebrides, including Skye, Mull and St Kilda, to act as a base for filming or other media needs.  She is equipped with a large motorised dinghy, plenty of deck space for storage of equipment and she also has a small crane for loading and unloading gear and the dinghy.

Our boat is a supremely seaworthy and comfortable vessel fitted with stabilisers and operated by our experienced skippers who are intimately familiar with all local waters, safe anchorages and sea conditions.  We can also provide a chef and local wildlife guide if necessary.  Whatever your needs, just ask and we will do our very best to meet them.

We can provide assistance with consulting on locations and then scouting them as needed.  Our owner, David Lambie, has decades of professional experience travelling around the Highlands and Islands and can usually advise or comment on most locations.  We also have an extensive network of contacts to call upon.

Scientific Research and Survey Boat Charters

If you need a small stable vessel for coastal or marine survey or research then we are equipped to help you.

Whether you need to carry out a seabird survey, are monitoring cetaceans, or perhaps require remote drop-offs at otherwise inaccessible coastal locations over a number of days then we can help. The Hjalmar Bjørge has a raised observation deck and is equipped with a large motorised dinghy for reaching remote shorelines. She also has a small crane for loading and unloading the dinghy and any larger equipment you may need, with ample storage space on the upper deck.

Please let us know what you are looking for and we will do our best to help.

Testimonials

Since our first trip on the Hjalmar Bjorge nearly 10 years ago we have returned whenever we could for more - I think that probably says it all! No two voyages have been the same, always moments of excitement and adventure and the privilege of being able to see fabulous wildlife and explore remote, often deserted places. With Hjalmar Bjorge and her crew looking after us so well this is my idea of a magical holiday.

Another great cruise on Hjalmar Bjorge despite the weather, with good company and excellent food. The wildlife was spectacular, especially the Alpine swift, the fishing White tailed sea eagle and Fin whales off Tiumpan head. Many thanks to skipper Dave, Hamish, Shaun, David and Linda for a truly memorable holiday. Thanks also to our professional spotters, for Megan for keeping us entertained with her stories about life as a TV wildlife presenter and James for keeping us entertained with his stories about life as a professional cameraman.

One of the best holidays we have ever had. Attentive staff and amazing food with a relaxing atmosphere. Shore excursions were optional and wildlife guides and sightings were spectacular.

A wonderful six days on board the Hjalmar Bjørge sailing out of Oban to St Kilda and the Outer Hebrides. The crew were knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and, along with my fellow passengers, made the trip a very rewarding and memorable experience.
Visiting St Kilda was the highlight, but there was so much wildlife to see and islands to explore, that this trip went well beyond my expectations.
I also should mention that the food was excellent.

We had a wonderful cruise aboard Hjalmar Bjørge. Our Skipper found lots of beautiful places with a calm anchorage. We saw lots of eagles, an otter or two, and some common dolphins, amongst other wildlife. We had an excellent wildlife guide who was able to point out so many things we might otherwise have missed. The food was absolutely outstanding from a really talented chef.
I recommend these cruises because there are only a few passengers, and we are able to visit islands and other anchorages which larger boats cannot reach. All in all excellent value.
